Dieter began his formal study of the bassoon when he was awarded a Bedfordshire
County Exhibition Scholarship to the Royal College of Music’s Junior Department. His
training continued at Trinity College of Music, London, where he studied bassoon with
Stephen Maw and Contrabassoon with Nicholas Reader. At Trinity he gained the LTCL
and DipTCL diplomas. Following audition and having been awarded two further
scholarships by the Ian Karten Musical Trust and the Prince of Wales Trust, Dieter
continued his post-graduate training in orchestral studies at the Guildhall School of
Music and Drama, London. Here he studied with Meyrick Alexander (bassoon) and
Gordon Laing (contra).
Since graduating, Dieter has enjoyed a successful career as an orchestral player,
chamber musician and soloist. Professional engagements have seen him perform
at most of the major London concert venues, including the Barbican, Festival Hall,
Purcell Room, Royal Albert Hall and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Dieter currently freelances
with many London based orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Camerata
of London, New London Orchestra and London Soloists Chamber Orchestra. Further
afield he has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Wales, English Sinfonia,
Sarum Chamber Orchestra and the Orquestra Philharmonic de Gran Canaria. He has
also performed at the Dartington, Cheltenham and Reigate Music festivals.
As a chamber musician, Dieter plays bassoon in the Sheridan Wind Soloists, an
ensemble which performs recitals and gives educational workshops nationwide.
Dieter has also given world première performances with Continuum Ensemble.
Recent concerto performances have included the Mozart and Weber Concertos and a
performance of Weber’s Andante & Hungarian Rondo.
Recital programmes are arranged as requested to give a recital of varied entertainment.
Music is selected from pieces which range from the Baroque to the present day to
compliment your seasons programme of events.
