The Sheridan Wind Soloists offer a versatile and imaginative programme of music,
which encompasses the wind chamber music repertoire from the late baroque / early
classical period through to world premier performances.

The Sheridan Wind Soloists work in the following instrumental combinations to
professionally cater for their clients' requirements, be this for a formal recital,
educational workshop or background music for a function.

  • Wind Trio (Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon)
  • Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and French Horn)
  • Wind Quintet with Piano
  • Wind Octet (2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons and 2 French Horns)

Programming is created to suit each audience and venue, with the above mentioned
flexibility of instrumentation included as the chosen repertoire dictates.

Sheridan Wind Soloists Biography

Founded in 1991 as a wind quintet the Sheridan quickly established itself both in London
and the South East of England by the quality and virtuosity of its players. As the Sheridan
has progressed, its' repertoire has grown to offer performances encompassing a wide
range of wind based music, bringing together the many beautiful and varied timbres that
these instruments can offer. The Sheridan's members are now some of Europe's top
freelance professional musicians (please see below for their profiles). The quality and
development of the ensemble has led to numerous recital engagements including venues
of St. Martin in the Fields, the London School of Economics and the Royal Parks as well
as Music Society concerts nationwide, including: Elmbridge Music Club, Minehead and
West Somerset Arts Society, Mansfield Music Society, Seaton and District Music Club
and Barnes Music Society.

Festival performances have included: the Cheltenham Festival, the First Annual Young
Musicians Chamber Music Festival in Halifax, the Wycombe Arts Festival, Minehead Arts
Festival and at the Barbican for Mostly Mozart (in association with Chameleon Arts).

Performances for private members clubs have included Dinner Concerts at the Garrick Club,
London and at the Phyllis Court Club, Henley-on-Thames.

The Sheridan Wind Soloists also offer a range of lighter music for background entertainment
at functions and corporate events, these have included drinks receptions at the London School
of Economics and for Simon Jersey Plc's trade stand at the Hospitality Show at Earls Court.

Gavin Morrison - Flute

Gavin studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Averil Williams and Edward Beckett and then as
a post-graduate at the Royal Academy of Music with Sebastian Bell. Since leaving college he has enjoyed a
varied freelance career, working with many different orchestras both in the UK and abroad, including the
Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera and the Oquestra Do Porto. Solo and Chamber work includes
performances of Concertos by Mozart, C.P.E. Bach and Ibert and being soloist in the world premiere of Colours
of the Celestial City, a work for two flutes, harp and chamber choir by John Rutter.

Emma Feilding - Oboe

Emma studied oboe with Celia Nicklin at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1993 she secured the post of Principal
Oboe with the Orquestra du Norte in Portugal. In 1994 she returned to the Academy, studying with Douglas Boyd
and on completing her studies was awarded the Dip.RAM and the Cork Prize.

As chamber musician Emma has performed with the Guildhall Strings, the Haffner Wind Ensemble, Piano Plus
Quintessance and Pipers 3. Her orchestral engagements include tours with the London Mozart Players, Britten
Sinfonia and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Orchestral work has seen Emma perform with the English Chamber Orchestra, English Festival Orchestra,
English National Ballet, English National Opera Orchestra, English Sinfonia, Garsington Opera, London Mozart
Players, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow City Ballet, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Laura Manning - Oboe

Laura was a junior exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music and continued her studies at Nottingham University,
where she studied with Janet Nabarro. Post-graduate studies followed with Gareth Hulse and the following year she
attended the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Holland to study with Heinz Friesen. Since completing her studies
Laura has enjoyed a varied freelance career which has encompassed numerous National and International tours
including a recent 3 month tour of the USA with London City Opera and National Tours with Chess, South Pacific
and Singin’ in the Rain. Orchestral appointments see Laura performing at all of the major concert venues
nationwide with the London Mozart Players, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, National Chamber Orchestra of Wales,
Bournemouth Symphony, English National Ballet and the BBC.

Marie Lloyd - Clarinet

Marie completed her Graduate studies at Trinity College of Music with Keith Puddy before moving to the
Royal College of Music to study with Colin Bradbury and Richard Hodford. Since leaving college she has pursued
a freelance orchestral and chamber music career. Marie is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and
also works with the Academy of St Martin In The Fields, LSO’s Chamber Ensemble, London Symphony Orchestra,
BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and has been principal
clarinet for the BBC Scottish, Bournemouth Symphony and Northern Theatre Ballet.

Alex Allen - Clarinet

Alex Allen is one of Britain’s leading clarinettists. In 1979 Alex won an Exhibition to study with David Hamilton
at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and later to study at the Royal College of Music where his
professors were John McCaw and Thea King.

During his time at College, Alex won many prizes including 1st prize in the Boosey and Hawkes MidNAG National
Clarinet Competition and 1st prize in the Clarinet and Saxophone Society’s 1st National Competition. More recently
he was asked to adjudicate the final round of BBC TV’s Young Musician of the Year. In 1994 the Kirckman Concerts
Society sponsored Alex and pianist James Lisney in their London South Bank debut at the Purcell Room.

Alex has appeared as a concerto soloist often, most notably with the Northern Sinfonia at Alnwick Castle and
at Mayfield Festival in a performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto conducted by Sir David Willcocks. He also
performed the Mozart Concerto in Malta and toured the UK playing the Finzi Concerto with Stephen Threlfall
conducting the National Philharmonic Chamber Strings. Alex is also leader and founder member of the Thurston
Clarinet Quartet with whom he broadcast often for BBC Radio 2 and 3. Their debut recording, Clarinet Masquerade,
was released in 1993 on ASV’s White Line label. Such was the popular and critical success of this CD that a
second, Clarinet Carnival, was released in June 1995.

Alex has played with most of the leading orchestras in the UK, including the Philharmonia, BBC Symphony
Orchestra and the CBSO. He has a long standing association with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group
(BCMG) and performed Catch by Thomas Adès on tour in Sweden and also broadcast it for BBC Radio 3.

Sarah Thurlow - Clarinet

Sarah's graduate studies took place at the Royal College Music, Aspen Music School, Colorado and the Scuola
Internazionale di Perfezionamento Musicale, Piacenza, Italy.

Since graduating she has since given solo recitals at the Purcell Room, the Bridgewater Hall and at St John's
Smith Square. Sarah has also been soloist with the Tavec. Bingham and Tempera string quartets and has
performed concertos by Finzi, Weber, Mozart, Strauss, Debussy (with the Philharmonia) and Rossini (with the
BBC Concert Orchestra). Sarah directs the ensemble Contemporary Consort with whom she has performed at
the Cheltenham and Brighton Festivals.

Freelance orchestral work sees Sarah performing with the Academy of Ancient Music, Age of Enlightenment,
City Chamber Ensemble, City of London Sinfonia, London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, London Symphony
Orchestra, National Chamber Orchestra of Wales, New London Sinfonia, Orchestra Revolutionnaire et
Romantique and the Sarum Chamber Orchestra.

Dieter Hester - Bassoon

Dieter completed the Post-graduate Orchestral Training Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
where he studied with Meyrick Alexander. Prior to this he attended Trinity College of Music where he studied
Bassoon with Stephen Maw and Contra Bassoon with Nicholas Reader. Whilst at Trinity he gained the DipTCL
and LTCL diplomas.

Since completing his studies professional engagements have seen Dieter perform in most of the major concert
venues with various London-based Orchestras including the Barbican, Festival Hall, Purcell Room, Royal Albert
Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and St. Martin in the Fields. Further afield he has performed with the London
Soloists Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Wales, National Symphony Orchestra, English Sinfonia,
Sarum Chamber Orchestra, Southern Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra and the Orquesta Philarmonic de
Gran Canaria.

As chamber musician Dieter also performs with the City Chamber Ensemble, Continuum Ensemble and as
bassoon soloist with the Corona String Quartet. Concerto performances have included the Mozart and Weber.

Richard Wainright - French Horn

Richard studied at the Royal Military School of Music Kneller Hall and then moved to the Royal Academy of
Music where he studied with Derek Taylor. Since graduating Richard has toured worldwide with the European
Union Chamber Orchestra and has performed on both Television and Radio on many occasions. He also enjoys
a varied freelance career working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC
Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra , R.T.E.
Symphony Orchestra, London Festival Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra,
English Symphony Orchestra
and performing in various shows currently running in London’s West End.

Wyn Hyland - Piano

Wyn started his formal music education at Chetham's School and went on to be regional winner of the BBC
Young Musician of the Year competition. He then studied at Oxford and the Royal College of Music.

Wyn has toured widely on behalf of the British Council, has given Concerto performances at the Royal Festival
Hall and St. David's Hall, Cardiff. He also continues to work as freelance pianist with the Moscow City Ballet and
London's major symphony orchestras.

The Sheridan Wind Soloists offer you the most wide ranging repertoire to create recitals
that offer music from a set period of history or instrumental combination, to an
all-encompassing and exciting musical experience with pieces ranging from the late
